A free solar generation tracker for your rooftop

A solar generation tracker answers one question first: how many units did my panels make today? After that, the useful numbers are live power, how today compares with yesterday, and the history that tells you whether the system is healthy.

What a good tracker shows

  • Units today (kWh). Ideally read from the inverter's own energy counter, not estimated from a graph.
  • Live power (kW) and how much of your system's capacity that is.
  • Any past day as a curve, with the peak and producing hours, so you can spot cloudy days, shading or a fault.
  • History: the last 30 days, each month of the year and a lifetime total.
  • What it's worth at the rate on your electricity bill.

Helio: a tracker you own

Helio is a free, open-source solar generation tracker for rooftop systems with an Eybond WiFi datalogger that reports to ShineMonitor, the cloud behind the SmartClient app. It opens straight on today's units and shows live power, a five-minute curve for any day, 30-day and yearly history, and savings in your own currency.

You deploy your own copy in about five minutes. Your ShineMonitor login stays on your server, there's no database and nothing is tracked.

Try the live demo or set up your own.

Is my system compatible?

Check your inverter for a small plug-in stick with a QR code and a PN number, usually with lights labelled PWR, COM, NET and SRV. If you can see your plant at shinemonitor.com or in the SmartClient app, Helio will work. Other clouds (Solarman, Growatt, SolisCloud, iSolarCloud, FusionSolar) aren't supported yet.

Questions

What is a solar generation tracker?

An app or dashboard that shows how much electricity your solar panels produce: units (kWh) today, live power in kW, and history by day, month and year.

Is Helio free?

Yes. Helio is open source under the MIT license and runs on Vercel's free plan. There is no subscription.

Do I need extra hardware?

No, if your inverter already has an Eybond WiFi datalogger reporting to ShineMonitor. Helio reads the data that stick already uploads.
